Plain clothes cops swooped in on youths ‘engaged in drug use’ in the city centre last night and found a ‘large knife’ which they tried to discard.
Three members of the group were arrested and were due to be interviewed last night by Greater Manchester Police. This is the second night in a row GMP officers have recovered a knife in the centre of Manchester after a ‘suspicious man’ was detained at Victoria Station on Friday night.
Plain clothes officers, who arrested the man at the city centre station after a struggle, found a 'large kitchen knife' stuffed down his trousers.
In regard to the events of April 1, a statement on Facebook made by GMP City Centre said: “Specialist #ProjectServator officers who were deployed in the City centre this evening, have for the second night running recovered a large knife. Following reports of a group of youths engaged in drug use, our quick thinking plain clothes officers successfully managed to detain the group as they attempted to leave.
“Whilst detained one of the group has attempted to discard a large knife and with none of them taking ownership of the item, all three were arrested to be interviewed regarding the matter. We are committed to deterring and detecting hostile reconnaissance and criminality through our unpredictable deployments.
“If you see something suspicious please be sure to report it via appropriate channels.”
