Youth World Cup winner and former Chelsea player on trial with Shamrock Rovers

Shamrock Rovers have taken former Chelsea midfielder George McEachran on trial as they look to add a ball playing midfielder to their three-in-a-row squad.

The free agent is hopeful of earning a contract with the League of Ireland champions, having slotted into Rovers midfield in their 4-0 victory against Lucan United at the Roadstone Training Complex on Saturday.

McEachran's career thus far has only consisted of five senior appearances, while out on loan at Dutch clubs Cambuur and MVV Maastricht separately. However, the 22-year-old was an essential part of England's midfield as the young Lions won the Under-17 World Cup in 2017.

Stephen Bradley aims to emulate the great Hoops side of the 1980's who won four league titles on the bounce. Rovers are on the lookout for a midfielder to replace Chris McCann. The ball playing veteran departed Tallaght Stadium in November following two successful years in Dublin 24.

The Hoops have added three players to their squad in the off-season, with Liam Burt and Johnny Kenny joining in attack, whilst Trevor Clarke resigned for the club from Bristol Rovers.

Overall, McEachran's creativity would add to an already talented Shamrock Rovers squad, as they search for their 21st League of Ireland title.
