A man has been arrested after a youth was assaulted with what is believed to be a samurai sword this afternoon.
Gardai in Dundalk were called to the scene in the Castletown Road area of the town at around 2.10pm on Saturday.
It's understood the youth sustained serious injuries following an altercation with a number of other youths.
He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Drogheda Hospital where his condition is described as stable.
A garda spokesman said: "At approximately 2.10pm today Saturday 25th January 2020 a male youth (exact age unknown) sustained serious injuries in what is believed to have been an altercation between himself and a number of youths.

"Three males entered a house armed with what's believed to be a Samurai sword and allegedly assaulted another male.
"The injured man was taken by Ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Drogheda Hospital where his condition is described as stable.
"A male has been arrested in relation to this incident and is currently detained at Dundalk Garda station."
"The weapon has not been recovered and investigations are ongoing."
