Youth filmed cycling bike into Dublin driver in fake taxi claim bid

This is the moment a brazen youth smashed his bike into the front of an innocent driver's taxi in an attempt to con his way into a compensation windfall.

The dashcam footage begins with the driver and passenger chatting as they make their way through the streets of The Liberties in Dublin city centre.

As the pair pull up to Meath Street and come to a halt, the shameless young cyclist is first seen on camera on the opposite side of the road.

The young man hastily crosses the junction towards the innocent taximan and smashes his bike into the front bonnet faking a collision.

The cyclist is seen leaning off his bike on to the car as he howls in dishonest pain. He then waves his arm in an act of shock before saying "what the f**k bro?".

The dishonest cyclist then whips out his mobile phone and begins to film the details of the driver and the car's registration plate.

And it is at this point that the car's no nonsense passenger gives the conman a piece of her mind.

"You're acting the b******s," she yelled as the cyclist smirked.

"He has you on video cam acting the b******s doing that you stupid c***.

"You're a stupid little b******."

The smirking youth then quickly cycles away upon realising he was being filmed.

The incident took place just after 6pm on Thursday at the Meath Street and the Coombe junction.

Gardai have been contacted for a statement on the incident.

Joe Herron from the Irish Taxi Drivers Federation said it was fortunate that the driver had a witness and that he had his dash camera switched on, adding that these type of incidents are becoming too common.

He said: "I saw the video this morning. It's maddening.

"The thing about taxis is, from these thugs' point of view, is that they know that the taxi is insured.

"And they know with the price of insurance, they'll have no bother getting some sort of compensation, whether it's from the driver or the insurance company.

"They also know that from an insurance company's point of view - if you claim an insurance company for €5,000 for injuries, they know that they'll get a payout without any problem, because it will cost the insurance company more to fight it."

Joe added that the driver was lucky his passenger was so fearless next to him.

He said: "That driver was very fortunate he had that lady in the car with him - not for what she shouted by the way - but because he had a witness to what happened."

He added that it was fortunate that the incident was caught on camera, agreeing that all motorists should use them due to the rising spate of dodgy compo-claim incidents in the city.
