A 17-year-old boy was electrocuted while pushing his motorcycle through floodwater when he grabbed hold of a concrete barrier with an electrical wire running along it, in Samut Prakan early Monday morning.
He was killed about 1am on flooded Praekasa Road.
Police called to the scene said the victim, identified later as Thanakorn Naksutin, from Lop Buri, was lying on the pavement beside his fallen white Honda Click motorcycle, which was leaning against a concrete barrier marking a construction zone.
Witnesses told police the youth was pushing his bike through floodwater on his way home when a pickup truck sped past, creating a wave that caused him to lose his balance. He reached out to steady himself on the barrier and instantly collapsed.
It was believed he was electrocuted by a live current leaking from a power line running along the barrier.
Rescuers were unable to approach him until the local electricity authority cut power to the scene.
Police said they would investigate the contractor responsible for placing the barriers and running the electric cables over them, and consider legal action.
