Teenager arrested in connection with brutal Dublin attack that saw woman stabbed in the neck

A teenage boy has been arrested in connection with a brutal attack that saw a woman stabbed in the neck.

Urantsetseg Tserendorj, 48, was "lucky to be alive" after being knifed during the attempted mugging next to the IFSC in Dublin on Wednesday night.

It is understood she was walking home from work when she was targeted in a random attack near the CHQ building at around 9.30pm.

A person on a bicycle is believed to have approached the woman and demanded cash, before fleeing towards the quays empty handed.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene and the woman was taken to Dublin’s Mater Hospital for life-saving surgery.

It is understood the attacker attempted to rob the woman and in the process stabbed her in the neck, leaving her in a serious condition on the street outside the Urban Brewing bar and restaurant.

Gardai have since arrested a young juvenile, understood to be a 15-year-old boy, in relation to the gruesome assault.

A spokeswoman said: "Gardaí in Store Street investigating the serious assault that occurred on the pedestrian walkway, between Georges Dock and Custom House Quay, IFSC, Dublin 1 on Wednesday night 20th January, 2021 have made an arrest.

"A juvenile has been arrested and is currently detained at Store Street Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"Investigations ongoing."
