Youri Tielemans statement made as Arsenal joined by Manchester United in transfer race

Here is your Arsenal morning digest on Friday, January 14.

Manchester United eye Lamptey swoop

Arsenal are apparently facing considerable competition in the race for Brighton & Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey.

The Gunners have been linked with the former Chelsea man for some time as they aim to bolster the right-side of their defence.

However, they face a battle to secure his services with Manchester United having entered the race for the England Under-21 international.

It is reported by The Mirror that the Red Devils want to sign a new right-back having been left unconvinced by Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s inconsistent first-half to the campaign.

Rodgers makes Tielemans statement

Another player to have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the past few weeks is Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans - who sees his contract expire in 2023.

Foxes’ boss Brendan Rodgers has suggested he is hopeful that the Belgian commits to an extended stay in the East Midlands.

He said: “Youri’s very happy here. He’s developed and turned into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

“Clearly with a player with that quality and with the length of contract, he’s always going to be talked about. We hope he will sign a new contract. He’s a brilliant professional.”

Xhaka blow

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka received a red card during the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Liverpool after fouling Diogo Jota outside the penalty area.

It is the second time that Xhaka has been sent off this season and the Swiss midfielder will miss Sunday's North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur, as well as the return leg against the Reds.
