Youri Tielemans responds to Manchester United transfer speculation

Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans says he was 'happy' to be linked with a move to a team like Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

Belgian international Tielemans took the Premier League by storm when he joined The Foxes on loan from Monaco in January with his performances leading to speculation of a summer move to the likes of United or Arsenal.

In the end Tielemans opted to join Leicester on a permanent basis and he says that part of his decision was down to the successful loan spell he had already had at the King Power Stadium.

The 22-year-old agreed a four-year deal to join Brendan Rodgers' club in the summer window and he has explained why he decided to join Leicester rather than move to another 'big club'.

"During the transfer window, I was happy of the interest of certain big clubs," he said ahead of Belgium’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against San Marino and Scotland.

"I needed to make a choice for my young career and I think it was the right one. To arrive off the back of a €45m transfer doesn’t change anything.

"They already knew me at Leicester. My loan spell went very good. I wanted to continue playing in this club."
