Your weekend binge list: 7 new shows and movies to stream on Netflix, Disney Plus and more (Dec. 12-14)

F1 the Movie; Merv; Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

Winter has officially hit that sweet spot where the cold feels crisp, the lights look cozy and everyone’s looking for new movies and TV shows to watch this weekend on Netflix, Disney Plus and other streaming services.

It’s the perfect moment to get wrapped up in the mystery of Rian Johnson’s "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery." Meanwhile, Taylor Swift fans enjoy a double dose of the pop star with both her Eras Tour concert film (including "The Tortured Poets Department" set) and a new docuseries. For action-packed adventures, jump back into the quest with "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" season 2.

And if you’re craving something high-octane, "F1 the Movie" brings the heat on Apple TV. Here's our guide on what to watch this weekend. And for more recommendations, check out the top 3 new to Netflix movies to watch this weekend.

New TV shows

‘Taylor Swift: The End of an Era’ (Disney Plus)

Taylor Swift is dropping not one but two holiday treats for fans this season. First up: “The End of an Era,” a six-part docuseries that peels back the layers of the record-shattering Eras Tour, from its first quiet rehearsal-room moments to its full-blown stadium roar. Along the way, look for appearances from Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, Florence Welch, Gracie Abrams and Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce.

But the real heartbeat here is the shared experience: tens of thousands singing in unison, millions more trading bracelets and memories across the globe. It feels like an all-access pass to the Swiftie universe. And the cherry on top? “The Final Show,” a concert film featuring the "Tortured Poets Department" set, drops at the exact same time.

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ season 2 (Disney Plus)

"Percy Jackson and the Olympians” returns for season 2, wasting zero time hitting the gas pedal. Camp Half-Blood is crumbling, Grover (Aryan Simhadri) has vanished, and Percy (Walker Scobell) is yanked straight back into hero duty — enthusiasm optional.

The quest for the Golden Fleece pushes Percy, Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), Clarisse (Dior Goodjohn) and his unexpectedly endearing cyclops half-brother Tyson (Daniel Diemer) into the chaos of the Sea of Monsters. With Luke (Charlie Bushnell) stirring the pot and an even bigger threat looming, Percy’s so-called summer break turns into a high-stakes scramble to save everything he cares about.

‘Man vs Baby’ (Netflix)

Trevor Bingley (Rowan Atkinson) thought he’d left holiday chaos behind after the “Man vs Bee” disaster. He’s swapped high-stakes housesitting for the calmer grind of mopping school hallways. Of course, for Trevor, calm never lasts long.

A swanky London penthouse job lures him back in, just as the school nativity’s Baby Jesus goes mysteriously unclaimed by their parents. Before long, Trevor is juggling an infant, a sparkling apartment to guard and his own frazzled nerves dangling by a thread of tinsel. Get ready for laugh-out-loud slapstick and Atkinson’s signature deadpan comedy at full throttle.

‘Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures’ season 3 (Disney Plus)

"Young Jedi Adventures" is back, bringing a fresh wave of High Republic excitement as Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and the adorable fuzzball Nubs set off on new, daring missions. Still honing their skills under Master Yoda, the trio rockets across the galaxy, helping anyone who needs a hand.

This season, they face off against the mischievous droidsmith Rek Minuu while meeting Dotti, a droid-repair whiz with a heart of gold. With the addition of new droids Beepers, Dozer, and Gigi, it’s a cozy, action-packed slice of Star Wars magic that's perfect holiday viewing for young Jedi and longtime fans alike.

New movies

‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ (Netflix)

“Wake Up Dead Man” pulls master sleuth Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) out of vacation mode and drops him into a chilly upstate parish where the sermons burn hot and the secrets burn hotter. Craig takes a bit of a back seat as Josh O’Connor steals the spotlight as a battered young priest desperate for help after his monsignor turns up impossibly dead.

Around them, heavy hitters like Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington and Andrew Scott keep the tension crackling. Director Rian Johnson threads faith, fear and small-town grudges into a moody mystery that proves this franchise hasn’t lost an ounce of its snap.

‘Merv’ (Prime Video)

The real draw of “Merv” is, well, Merv, the titular terrier that is so heartbreakingly cute he could probably negotiate world peace, yet here he is just trying to cope with his humans’ messy breakup. Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox play exes awkwardly sharing custody of their mopey pup, whose post-split depression pushes them into a sunshine-soaked “cheer him up” trip to Florida.

Nobody involved in this movie is pretending this is a radical rom-com reinvention, but watching two people dance around their feelings while their adorable dog all but begs them to figure it out gives the movie its soft, irresistible holiday glow.

‘F1 the Movie’ (Apple TV)

Do you feel a need for speed? Where “Top Gun: Maverick” took to the skies, “F1” heads to the racetrack to keep your adrenaline pumping. Under direction from “Maverick’s” Joseph Kosinski, Brad Pitt takes the wheel as Sonny Hayes, a fallen star coaxed back to Formula 1 to save his old teammate’s struggling team, only to clash with rookie phenom Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris).

The story sticks to classic sports-drama beats, but the blistering race sequences turn clichés into pure spectacle. With Pitt in full movie-star form, the film burns rubber—and nearly scorches the screen.
