What did readers make of Weekend magazine’s political blind dates? Photograph: Photograph: Roger Tooth for the Guardian

Your cover story was a beneficial addition to the political process, and more conducive to real debate than PMQs.

My favourite election article so far. The tribalism of the party political system is a hindrance to good governance, rather than a help, so anything that helps politicians see each other, and others’ supporters, as equally human, and with surprising areas of agreement, can only help. They need to be able to compromise where needed and make decisions more relevant to those they represent.

How revealing that almost none of the politicians had any idea what their date thought of them. They are either incompetent humans, don’t really care or perhaps both.

I did enjoy the MPs’ blind dates, but is it an indication of what our representatives are willing to do for the chance of a free meal?

No SNP blind dater? Weren’t asked, said no or vetoed by the rest?

Editor’s note: Those we asked said no, alas.

I’d have loved Google’s approach when I was young. I started out at IBM in the early 1990s, and it was so corporate and sterile. This approach would have horrified the big corporates back then.

My Mother, The Alcoholic was handled sensitively and intelligently. My own mother was an alcoholic who smoked and drank throughout her pregnancy. I’ve had some physical issues (I was premature, and am smaller than I should be), but no permanent organic brain injuries. Women need compassion and help.

Sophie Heawood was hacking away at her kitchen floor with a mallet and chisel after midnight, in a terrace house? I don’t envy her neighbours...

I was taken aback by Cerys Matthews’ choice of music to give birth to: all male performers, apart from Taylor Swift?

Judging by the expression of the guy on the left at the Adam and the Ants gig, I suspect there was more than “watered-down lager” doing the rounds that night.

Poor Ethan Hawke’s wife. What started off as sweet (“the love of my life”) went from bad (“There are a couple of girls I’d like to see again”) to worse (bringing up her “scent”). How flattering.
