I was pleased to see women who had undergone mastectomies included in Laura Dodsworth's project on breasts. The narrow cultural images of what a woman should look like ought to be challenged, and projects such as Dodsworth's are a step towards showing that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.

I wonder how many other women spent part of last Saturday working out which breasts most matched their own?

John Lanchester says that the way the tax and benefits system subsidises low wages has no precedent. In fact, it is very similar to the operation of the Old Poor Law before 1834, when workers received "outdoor relief" as a subsidy to wages. Let's hope the next step in growing inequality is not the reintroduction of the New Poor Law and the workhouses that were its main feature.

It is not acceptable for government, and therefore the taxpayer, to subsidise corporations' poor wage policies, but this has been the state of affairs since 2009. Many people do not realise that most benefits are paid to people in work. Talking about it may help, but that is not enough. It's time action was taken, but no one in politics is poor enough to care.

Annual income below which UK residents are considered below the "poverty line": £13,920. Cost of a suite for one night at the Connaught in Dublin (Hotel Wars, 6 September): £14,000. An epic juxtaposition, though this time without an unfortunately placed advert.

I am sorry to see Sam Wollaston stop his car reviews. The inclusion of his family, and his cheery, non-Top Geary descriptions have been greatly appreciated by this ordinary dad in his ordinary car.

What possessed Sam Kirby to chug down a whole bottle in front of a woman who is intolerant to alcohol ? Is he related to the Dowlings?
