It was so refreshing to see female footballers make the cover. As a fellow football player, it is encouraging to witness, especially after years of being laughed at for playing a “boy’s” sport instead of hockey or netball. These players are a true inspiration to young women, and their message is clear: whatever the men can do, we can do better.

What a brilliant article about the people who work past retirement age. We seem to be overrun at the moment with pieces about older people with dementia. Not that there isn’t a need for empathy, but this is a welcome reminder that old age is not necessarily about losing your faculties.

Interesting piece, but it kind of misses the point. How many of us can afford to retire? Not me. Every time I turn round, the pension age increases, and I’ve a feeling I’ll be chasing it until I’m 80. So I have to keep earning, since my private pension is practically nonexistent.

The problem with an article about people working into their 70s, 80s and even 90s is that someone from the government might read it.

A great interview with Janice Dickinson. I’m so glad she brought up the statute of limitations issue and all the ignored rape kits across the country. Good for you, Ms Dickinson!

After reading Modern Tribes, I remembered the time I tried to buy ice-cream without realising I didn’t have any cash. My toddler daughter had already started licking her 99 when I discovered that my husband had nicked all my change for parking. I offered to pay by card, but the ice-cream vendor said: “This is a sodding ice-cream van, love.” Fortunately, a woman behind me in the queue saw my predicament and subbed me the £1.20. The kindness of strangers.

Congratulations to Sophie Heawood for a very droll and balanced piece on Yorkshireand its people’s underachievement. And it was completed without reference to Yorkshire’s most famous sportsman, who could never be accused of identifying his underachievement. Perhaps it was an intended boycott.

Someone give Tim Dowling a pay rise. Failing that, prescribe him on the NHS. I had tears of laughter streaming down my face.

Did anyone understand the rules of Tim Dowling’s game? No, me neither.
