As always, healthy, beautiful and inspirational food. Precisely why Yotam Ottolenghi is my favourite chef.

Are you serious? Thirty ingredients for one recipe (the spiced chickpea patties). Surely nobody has the time or money to accumulate all that and then have the energy to cook and serve it.

Even if Vince Cable is right that the Lib Dems mitigated a few of the worst Conservative excesses, it was Nick Clegg’s political ambition that opened the door to the Tories. Had they refused to join them, a second election might have had a different result. It was obvious from the start, with Tories in every key cabinet post, that they had been suckered, yet they shored up a “coalition” that gave the Tories time to consolidate support and complete their coup in 2015. The Lib Dems should be ashamed.

How bad would life have to be to take your family on an overpriced, overcrowded, unsafe voyage? It speaks volumes about the situations these people are trying to get away from.

As a British Asian, it’s great to see an Indian woman in her own show, as well as one who isn’t the usual, light-skinned woman in magazines. It’s rubbish seeing these airbrushed images and feeling that’s the beauty standard for Indian women now. I don’t identify with it, but I do identify with Mindy Kaling.

Sophie Heawood’s 5 September column was a smart piece of writing on a very difficult subject, and I say that as a fellow rape survivor. Thank you.

I’d never argue that a rape victim didn’t have the right to process their own rape however they wanted, if it’s only their life they’re affecting, but Chrissie Hynde has a responsibility with the views she makes public. How many of her fans will start to consider this a valid view of rape?

Mike Unwin’s story about running over a cow would not be unusual round here. In summer, cattle wander freely around Minchinhampton Common, and not driving fast makes little difference, because for the most part they ram vehicles. Several are killed each year, though the one that wrote off my car ran away apparently untroubled.
