Considering how high a percentage of the population do it, breastfeeding is still taboo. A lot of women need support, and it just isn’t out there.

I tire of articles that treat women who formula-feed their babies as failing to do what nature intended. A midwife once held my face in her hands, wiped away my tears and said the best thing for my baby was a happy, healthy mother. She was right.

We’re very glad that Tim Dowling did manage to raise himself from his sick bed and drive to Honiton, because the band was excellent. We were tempted by one of the famous tea towels, but went for a mug and a CD instead.

Another recipe (Thomasina Miers’ baked custard) that requires many egg yolks. What to do with all the whites? There’s a limit to our need for meringue.
