I was surprised that traffic in the capital of Estonia was brought “to a virtual standstill” after texts were sent to the Russian-speaking minority telling them to drive very slowly at a certain time of day. Such a cyber attack would never work here: in our major cities, traffic coming to a virtual standstill is seen as a sign of normality.

Forget Tim Dowling’s acerbic comments about his family. His column about saying goodbye to the old dog shows what they are really like: compassionate, loving and supportive.

Oliver Burkeman is right. Thank you for The Imitation Game. To say that Aesop of Richmond is in a “Georgian town house” hides the fact that it was once the best children’s bookshop in the area, before it was forced to close due to increased rents. The new proprietors have made the building so pretentiously offputting that I have never ventured in to see what they actually sell.

I’m pleased to see that What I’m Really Thinking has returned after an absence of four months. I hope it’s back to stay.
