My experience of infertility is of a brutal, heartbreaking and desperate experience that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. What an amazing and wonderful person Jenny French is.

I have been an altruistic egg donor twice. I wasn’t paid, and think it’s important it isn’t a financial transaction, as it is elsewhere. The same goes for surrogacy, which is a far greater sacrifice: life’s too precious to attach a monetary value to it.

The Inheritance was a beautiful piece, but also a sad reflection on the way our society hides death from view until you are forcefully confronted with it. Dying is simply the last act of every life, but seems to be the final taboo in western society. I hope I get the privilege of dying peacefully in my bed with a good book on my chest.

We have an eight-year-old with ADHD and were against meds. He was almost expelled at six and, after trying many alternative remedies, we were told he’d need a mild dose of Ritalin. On 10mg, his behaviour has improved greatly. We’ll continue trying parallel therapies, but it was that or have a bright kid chucked out of school.

Perhaps I’m showing my ignorance, but I’d be amazed if anyone finished the 21 November Crossword puzzle. With abstruse words such as “froen”, “oenomel”, “euchre”, the name “Sojourner Truth” and the hotel Hay Adams, it was just too hard.

As a way of scrapping to-do lists, Oliver Burkeman suggests writing down five tasks on a sheet of paper, doing them one by one and crossing them off, then adding new ones . Which is a to-do list. Brilliant. Next: how to stop smoking by buying only 10 fags at a time, then replacing them.

I’ve long held suspicions about the sanity of the The Measure, but last week’s was frightening. Going down: macaroons? Not in my lifetime.

Is it bad that I read Marina O’Loughlin’s reviews only when the star rating is low?
