What a decent chap Tom Daley is, and a good representative of Britain (18 July). To be in your teens and follow such a strict regime separates him from the rest of us mortals.

Hopefully one day articles will be written about people who do not have to mention their sexuality or gender, but that day is still a long way off, particularly for an international figure who has to compete in countries where people are regularly persecuted for being gay, and for whom equality is an impossible dream.

Suggestions that Katie Hopkins is a psychopath (18 July) are curious; I thought such characters had charm, at least on the surface.

The “rise” of the superdad (18 July)? Joely Richardson (Q&A, 18 July) lacks imagination if she thinks every elderly person needs courage to get though the day. Many of us can’t wait to get up in the morning, because there’s so much we still want to achieve before we die.
Eva Lawrence

That’s Me In The Picture (18 July) was a powerful argument for affordable housing. When Pat Swindells’ husband defaulted on their mortgage, she had the chance of a council house. As she said: “I thought I’d won the pools when we moved there.”

Is it too late to add Sophie Heawood to the Labour leadership ballot paper?
