Carey Mulligan's reluctance to discuss her private life makes me respect her even more. Too often celebrities bombard us with personal information in attempts to be more likeable. I'm glad Mulligan agrees that a lot of us are neither entitled to nor interested in that side of their lives.

I should think Carey Mulligan regrets making Simon Hattenstone her "interviewer of choice", given that he followed her clear request not to talk about her husband with 17 questions about the relationship. Was it too much to expect that he might just stick to asking her about acting, social issues and her childhood? Yes, we may be interested in that stuff, but we can survive without it. For those who can't, there's always Hello!

I quite fancy being on the cover of Weekend. If Simon Hattenstone can do the interview, that would be great.

Great article on neonatal intensive care – and all very familiar to me for the experience of my daughter's care at Bristol Children's Hospital. My admiration for the surgeons and cardiologists and nurses and clinical staff at Bristol, and all other places of cardiac surgery and care for children, is unlimited. Oh, and yes, thank God for the NHS. May we one day once again have a government that cherishes it as much as we do.

I was beginning to doubt myself, so I'm glad Mary Love and John Post feel that the GP's receptionist is under-qualified to triage patients. Depression is excruciating, and not only do I not want to tell the receptionist, I look/sound OK even when suicidal ideology is running through my mind on a loop. I know the receptionist couldn't tell, because she asked me if I really needed the emergency appointment. The GP saw it immediately and treated me.

I've always liked Stephen Dillane, with his clear-eyed look of quiet amusement, and admired the understated sensitivity of his acting, so I was interested to get a sense of the man in his Q&A. Then I read that the living person he most admired was Russell Brand…

Tim Dowling's battle with his Tesco conscience is beginning to get my goat. As a "tireless supporter" of his local shops, does Tim not realise that the shop where he knows he can "pick up all this stuff" is the very shop that won't be there for much longer unless he gets his lazy arse in gear?

I realise we are in that post-Christmas/New Year malaise, but yet another "my mate's flat in the East End" is stretching it a bit: a house full of "vintage finds" is really not that interesting these days, even if the owner does have "creative tendencies". I don't see your fashion pages covered with models wearing their mum's cast-offs, so why do you trivialise design in this way? There are lots of really great examples of design to be found, and it's a shame you're not looking for, nor finding, it.

Why do so many people have a gripe about Ask A Grown-Up? Children are naturally inquisitive, and if their parents/carers help them to shape their question, so be it. Similarly, the educated responses by professional adults should be applauded for not being over-simplified. However, as an alternative, may I suggest a new column, Ask A Child? I'm always fascinated to see how children understand the world.
