Your verdict on Theatre Royal panto starring Les Dennis, Gareth Gates and Sooty

Giggling at dolled-up pantomime dames and their cheeky innuendos is as much a good ol' fashioned Yuletide tradition as supping mulled wine or tucking into a bag of roasted chestnuts.

This year Nottingham's Theatre Royal has two for the price of one with both prime time TV hero Les Dennis and Corrie baddie Connor McIntyre (Pat Phelan) strapping on the stilettos to play the Ugly Sisters in this year's offering, Cinderella.

The pair are joined on stage by Noughties teen heart-throb Gareth Gates as Prince Charming and Richard Cadell and Sooty as Buttons.

The star-studded line-up landed in Nottingham at the start of the week for five days of rehearsals and on Saturday afternoon (November 30) it was show time.

On at the theatre until Sunday, January 5, 2020, there's plenty of chance to catch the production - but is it worth the trip?

We asked audience members from the first matinee show what their verdict was.

Ian Gibbons, 52, of Leicester, who attended with his daughter Lily, 12, said: “We thought they were very funny, it was really good, not what I was expecting. I thought I’d be falling asleep.”

“Sooty and Matthew’s magic tricks were really good”

Caroline Nelson, 52, Nottingham, Teaching Assistant from Nottingham, said: “It was absolutely brilliant, all the characters were fantastic, they really engage you”

Anne-Marie Hayes, 48, Project Manager from Derby, said: “I really enjoyed it, it was a really funny show”

“I thought the guy that played Buttons was very funny”

Tickets are on sale at trch.co.uk priced £18 to £38.50.
