Nottingham Forest fans welcomed the return of record signing Joao Carvalho to the starting XI for their final game of 2019.
The Reds host Wigan Athletic in front of an expectant, sold-out City Ground crowd and they’ll do so with the £13m man back in their side, hoping to provide the ammunition for leading scorer Lewis Grabban.
Carvalho’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with the Portuguese youngster having struggled to pin down a regular berth in Sabri Lamouchi’s side following his recovery from an injury sustained in pre-season.
His return was one of three changes made by Lamouchi, who was forced into replacing Samba Sow, who picked up a dead leg in the Boxing Day win at Hull City.
Sow’s place was taken by Ryan Yates, while there was also a start for Sammy Ameobi in place of Joe Lolley, as the Frenchman opted to freshen things up during a busy festive run of matches.
