Your stories: An Unexpected Death…

Young Rabbit from Green Shoots

Lucy was an ordinary girl who lived in an ordinary house. Her mother’s name was Sheila. Lucy’s father (Mark), who had only just passed away, was a very kind man, unlike her mother. He would always stick to Lucy’s side when her mother was shouting at her for something that she didn’t do. Now, her father was dead. She was alone; alone with only a small rabbit to keep her company. Lucy’s rabbit was called Fluffy. Fluffy was very dear to Lucy because her father had bought it for her.

One day, Lucy was teaching Fluffy to do some tricks. The wind was howling like a wolf and the black, crooked gate squeaked open. Fluffy hurriedly ran and jumped over the gate and landed in the middle of the road. A huge tractor ran the poor, little rabbit over. Lucy stayed silent; silent as a mouse. The person who was driving the tractor was nowhere to be seen. They had disappeared. Lucy quickly ran back inside her house and didn’t tell her mother.

About 10 minutes later, a sound of a heavy knock landed on Lucy’s door. Sheila appeared and then Lucy told her the full story. After that, Sheila didn’t reply. Not even a single word. Lucy didn’t bother. She asked the police to search for her missing rabbit and they said they will do what they could. Lucy tried to remember her dad and recalled his last words to her which were: “I will fulfill any of your wishes whenever you want.” She remembered these words and recited them all throughout the night. She hoped that it would be a better day tomorrow.

The next day, Lucy heard a loud bang on the entrance door. She thought that Sheila would get it but she could hear her snoring away so she just went to answer it herself. It was Sergeant Timber.

“Oh, hello there Lucy,” the sergeant said kindly, “it seems to me that we have found the murderer of your precious rabbit and it is… your mother.”

Lucy was so shocked at this that she just slammed the entrance door on the sergeant’s face and darted up the wooden, brown stairs into her room and banged the door behind her. She cried for hours. Finally her mother woke up and she hummed a cheerful tune as she walked down the stairs going thump, thump, and thump.

Lucy still could not believe what her mother had done. Although Sheila had shouted at Lucy previously, smacked Lucy and locked her in her room for 3 days without any food or water – Lucy could not believe that she had murdered her rabbit!

The good thing about Lucy’s room was that she had a massive lock on her door which meant that no-one could enter when she was writing secret things in her very secret diary. No-one could tell her what to do now and no-one could see all her wet, salty tears dripping silently on Lucy’s pink polka dotted dress.

At around about 4:00pm, Sheila knocked on the door very lightly because she knew that Lucy knew about the horrible news. Sheila did do it on purpose. She did it because she hated rabbits. They left little round brown spheres on her bed. Anyway, because Sheila had knocked on the door 8 times and Lucy wasn’t answering, Sheila had to brake open the door and crash straight through it.

What Sheila did to Lucy was unbelievable. She strangled her. Lucy started choking. Sheila left. No words, no nothing.

Hours later, it was bed time and Lucy was scared that Sheila would come in and physically kill her.

Before she went to bed, Lucy wished; wished that her horrible, selfish mother would die. The woman who was nearly going to kill her. That would probably not happen. Lucy heard a scream. Just then, a ghostly figure appeared.

It was Mark.

He said, “I have fulfilled your wish, Lucy.”
