At 8.30 pm on June 2, India Today's Rahul Kanwal hosted a panel discussion focused on the fugitive Mehul Choksi. On the panel were Choksi's lawyer, a writer, and a director general of police from Nagaland.
The police officer, Rupin Sharma, was invited for the discussion, Kanwal explained, because he’d been involved in previous cases where high-profile fugitives had to be extradited or deported.
As Sharma was replying to Kanwal’s question about what the possible outcomes could be in Choksi’s case, his screen went black and he said, "Rahul my electricity has gone off."
To this, Kanwal replied, “Don't worry, you're in Nagaland, electricity goes off even in India, please go on speaking Rupin, we'll just listen to what you're saying."
Sharma did not address the remark and went on to talk about Choksi’s case.

We sincerely hope what Kanwal meant was that electricity goes off “even” in his studio in the National Capital Region, which surely cannot be conflated with India. Nagaland, last we checked, is very much a part of India.
Update: Rahul Kanwal has now tweeted an apology, saying he misspoke and that he meant to say ‘Delhi’ and not ‘India’.
