Your new year media honours list

Sir Michael Parkinson, Sir Nicholas Kenyon, Des Lynam OBE and Leslie Phillips CBE. Just some of the media types rewarded in the Queen's New Year Honours List published today. But who would you give your gongs too? Ricky Gervais?

I wouldn't. Well, not after that damp squib of a feature-length Extras finale, that's for sure.

I'm only sorry that Phillips, veteran of nearly 150 small and big screen projects including Harry Potter, Take A Girl Like You and the "Doctor" films wasn't awarded an OBE rather than a CBE. Then all the headline writers could have written "HellooOBE." Or maybe not. Doesn't look quite so funny written down.

Anyway, who else in the media will be ordering a new batch of headed notepaper now that they have letters to put after their name? Julie Walters, who will always be remembered for Acorn Antiques no matter how much other stuff she does - becomes a CBE, and there are OBEs for fellow actors Richard Griffiths, Roy Dotrice and BBC News presenter George Alagiah.

And former BBC Proms and Radio 3 controller Nicholas Kenyon will be putting letters in front of his name - three of them, S, I and R, after he was knighted.
