PM tells Tories to prepare for 'tough' December election fight

Boris Johnson has told Tory MPs to prepare for a “tough” general election fight after winning his bid to take the nation to the polls.

The Prime Minister’s victory in the Commons last night comes after three previous failed attempts.

The one-page Bill enabling the election on December 12 now goes to the House of Lords, but it is unlikely to be held up.

Once it receives the royal assent, it will pave the way for Parliament to be dissolved on November 6 marking the start of the campaign.

The Tories go into the campaign in buoyant mood, with one opinion poll at the weekend putting them 16 points ahead of Labour.

Addressing MPs, Mr Johnson said it would be “tough” battle, but that was a chance to ensure his party “get Brexit done”.

The team fanned out across the pitch in V-formation as the All Blacks delivered the challenge ahead of Saturday’s match.

Several players who crossed the halfway line stood their ground when officials tried to usher them back.

World Rugby regulations state that opponents must not cross the halfway line while the haka is being performed.

The disciplinary action was confirmed last night but the size of the fine, which is to be donated to charity was not disclosed.

Great British Bake-Off champion is crowned

This season of the Great British Bake-Off has come to an emotional end as the 2019 winner of the well-loved show was crowned.

Underdog David Atherton came out on top after last night’s final, seeing off competition Steph Blackwell and Alice Fevronia.

David stunned Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with his showstopper, and was the only contestant to present a serviceable souffle.

He remained stress-free in the final, and wanted to enjoy the long process which has led to his victory.
