Brits stranded in virus-hit China 'won't fly home today'

Britons stranded in a coronavirus-hit city in China face a longer wait to return home as officials have not yet granted permission for their flight to depart.

A planned flight to bring UK nationals back home today from Wuhan, where the deadly illness first broke out, has been delayed.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said a number of flights have been unable to depart "as planned" but that transport would be available "as soon as possible".

The death toll of the coronavirus has risen to 170 and the illness has spread to every single region in mainland China.

Kobe's wife pays touching tribute to husband and daughter after fatal helicopter crash

Kobe Bryant’s wife has said she has been left “completely devastated” by the death of the NBA legend and their teenage daughter in a helicopter crash.

The LA Lakers star and 13-year-old Gianna were among nine people who died when the aircraft came down in California on Sunday.

Three days after the crash, Vanessa Bryant has broken her silence as she posted a family photo on Instagram alongside a touching tribute.

Mrs Bryant said she and the couple's other daughters, Natalia, 17, Bianka, three, and Capri, seven months, were thankful for the "millions of people who've shown support and love during this horrific time".

Pompeo warns Huawei 5G role in UK 'real risk' as he prepares to meet Johnson for talks

Mike Pompeo has warned that Huawei’s role in Britain’s 5G network poses a “real risk” to security amid a row over the Chinese firm.

The US Secretary of State said the company was “an extension of the Chinese Communist Party” and that Washington would “evaluate” the UK’s move.

It comes after Boris Johnson insisted that allowing the firm involvement in the 5G network would not damage transatlantic security co-operation.

Mr Pompeo flew to the UK yesterday and is set to hold talks with for talks with the Prime Minister later amid a fallout over the UK's decision.

Javid expected to tell PM to back HS2

Sajid Javid is today expected to tell Boris Johnson that HS2 should go ahead as he throws his weight behind the high-speed rail project.

The Chancellor is expected to support the initiative at a meeting with the Prime Minister and Transport Secretary Grant Shapps later.

It is understood that having reviewed costs and alternatives Mr Javid will "broadly back" the line from London to Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds.

Love Island's Leanne on Mike dumping her: a kick in the teeth

Dumped Love Island star Leanne Amaning has said Mike Boateng sending her home was a “bit of a kick in the teeth”.

The 22-year-old was forced to leave the villa in Cape Town, South Africa, after Mike picked Sophie Piper in a dramatic recoupling during last night’s episode.

She opened up about how she felt about the situation, hinting that she believes Mike is “playing a game” - although she “wants him to be happy.”
