Your insider's guide to 7 top beach clubs in Bali

There are so many Instagram-worthy spots at The Lawn in Canggu.

Navigating Bali’s beach club scene can be daunting, especially during peak season, but if you already know what to look out for and where the best spots are, you will enjoy yourself better. Here, in no particular order, are seven of the best beach clubs in Bali, with insider’s tips.

#1 Sundays Beach Club, Ungasan

Beanbags are a step up from your humble beach towel.

The crowd: Groups of friends, families with children, young and old

Why we like it: The theme here is key to the experience – every day is a Sunday!

Insider’s tip: Do not miss bonfires by the sea at sunset, complimentary water sports, ocean view dining with a menu crafted by Australian chef James Viles.

Entry: Walk-in fees are 450,000 rupiahs (US$31) for adults and 200,000 rupiahs for children which includes F&B credit, and access to water sports.

Opens daily, 9am-10pm. Address: Jalan Pantai Selatan Gau, Banjar Wijaya Kusuma, Ungasan, 80362 Bali. Tel: +62 811 9421 110

#2 The Lawn, Canggu

So many Instagrammable spots; so little time.

The crowd: Young travellers, influencers and celebrities from all over the world.

Why we like it: There are so many Instagram-worthy spots at The Lawn.

Insider’s tip: The daybeds are the best spot to enjoy amazing views of the ocean while you sip cocktails by the pool. Order the white chocolate and caramel espresso martini.

Entry: Daybeds (minimum spend 1 million rupiahs) and beach chairs (minimum spend 250,000 rupiahs) are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Opens daily, 11am-11pm. Address: Jalan Pura Dalem, Canggu, Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali. Tel: +62 361 335 1055

Will Grand Basel Miami Beach be an Art Basel for car collectors?

#3 Potato Head Beach Club, Seminyak

Have you ever seen so many retro wooden windows in one place? Potato Head makes an impression even before you step inside.

The crowd: An eclectic mix of families and groups of friends.

Why we like it: Potato Head boasts a collection of great restaurants, and its eponymous bar ranks 36th in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2018 (it is also the highest ranking Indonesian bar), and is the winner of the inaugural Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award.

Insider’s tip: Arrive early to secure the best daybeds (first come, first served). But the actual hidden gem is the pizza garden upstairs, which bakes Neapolitan style pies in a wood fire oven imported from Italy.

Entry: General entry is free, but certain areas require a minimum spending.

Opens daily, 10am-2am. Address: Jalan Petitenget No 51, Seminyak, Bali 83061. Tel: +62 361 473 7979

#4 Mrs Sippy, Seminyak

What we would love to see: an Olympic diver taking on Mrs Sippy’s dive platform.

The crowd: A good mix of all ages; tourists from all over the world, especially Australia and Jakarta.

Why we like it: Mrs Sippy has the largest saltwater pool in Bali, and a 5-metre (16-foot) diving platform.

Insider’s tip: The best spot in the house is the VIP poolside daybed section, where you get unhindered views of brave souls taking a dive.

Entry: 150,000 rupiahs, which includes a redeemable 100,000 rupiahs. Members get complimentary entry except for special events (it is sufficient reason to sign for the free membership).

Opens daily, 10am-9pm. Address: Jalan Taman Ganesha, Gang Gagak 8, Seminyak, Bali 80361. Tel: +62 361 335 1079

Bernie Madoff’s beachfront mansion is on sale for US$21 million

#5 Omnia, Uluwatu

Omnia’s famous glittering cube

The crowd: Affluent, celebrities, influencers.

Why we like it: You have not been to Omnia until you have taken a photo with the club’s famous glittering cube. It is not just for show – there is a bar below it.

Insider’s tip: One of our own Nomads visited Omnia’s restaurant Sake no Hana earlier this year, and she recommends booking a table by the window for views of the day club below. Order the Spicy Tarabagani Hobayaki (chargrilled Alaskan crab with spicy tobiko sauce).

Entry: Daily cover charge (subject to season and change)

Opens daily, 11am-10.30pm. Address: Jalan Belimbing Sari, Banjar Tambiyak, Desa Pecatu, Uluwatu, Bali 80364. Tel: +62 361 848 2150

#6 Ku De Ta, Seminyak

Pictures do not do it justice; you need to see the sunset from Ku De Ta yourself.

The crowd: Soulful funk music lovers.

Why we like it: Its sunset lounge offers an amazing panoramic view of Bali’s sunset (it is also why daybeds are booked out fast).

Insider’s tip: To best experience Ku De Ta, visit during its exclusive annual summer events, the highly anticipated Day Party and White Party.

Entry: No cover charge for general entry, but entrance tickets are required for special summer events.

Opens daily, 8am-2am. Address: Jalan Kayu Aya No 9, Seminyak, Bali 80361. Tel: +62 361 73 6969

#7 Finns Beach Club, Canggu

Is that the coolest DJ deck?

The crowd: Tourists, expatriates, young influencers and celebrities.

Why we like it: The DJ stage is a double-storey bamboo deck that towers over the pool area. Party lovers can be found lounging there all day, drinks in hand.

Insider’s tip: If you are going to frequent Finns Beach Club during your stay, it is worth signing up as a member (prices start at 500,000 rupiahs) to enjoy benefits like free entry for three of your guests, F&B discounts, pre-sale rates for special events and copping a single daybed with no minimum spending.

Entry: No charge for general entry, but minimum spend rates for daybeds and access to the party platform start at 500,000 rupiahs.
