Matchday live
Football
Yara El-Shaboury is at the controls of our essential gateway to the day’s football action. There’ll be team news and breaking stories from around the grounds as well as looking ahead to Saturday’s five Premier League fixtures. There are also 10 Championship matches, including Coventry, the runaway leaders, against Charlton plus lunchtime kick-offs in Stoke v Hull and Leicester v Sheffield United. Plus a nod to the Libertadores final as Flamengo play Palmeiras at 9pm. In the Scottish Premiership, top dogs Hearts travel to Motherwell. Why not join the conversation?
2pm
Qatar Grand Prix sprint race live
Formula One
Buckle up for a thrilling dash to the season’s finale with the race for the drivers’ title on a knife edge. Only Lando Norris can become world champion in Qatar this weekend but the McLaren driver could also be overtaken in the title race by both his teammate Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen. If it all goes horribly wrong for Norris – as it did in Las Vegas last weekend – then the Australian Piastri or Red Bull’s reigning champion, Verstappen, could go to the final race in Abu Dhabi the following week in the lead. The 26-year-old Briton has a 24-point lead on the pair, who are level-pegging on 366 points, with 58 remaining to be won – 33 of them in Qatar from a Saturday sprint and Sunday night race. Norris cannot secure the title on Saturday, even if he takes all eight points and his rivals draw a blank, because while that would leave him 32 points clear there would still be 50 available at that stage. He can wrap it up on Sunday, and hand McLaren both titles in the same year for the first time since Mika Häkkinen’s first crown in 1998, when the total points left available after the race goes down to 25. Philip Cornwall keeps pace with the action lap by lap, with coverage of the sprint race, then qualifying from 6pm.
3pm
Manchester City v Leeds and Sunderland v Bournemouth live
Premier League
Barry Glendenning helms our football clockwatch and he’ll be keeping an especially close eye on two of the afternoon’s three Premier League matches. After their defeat on Tyneside last week, only a win will do for City against struggling Leeds at the Etihad Stadium. This might be the moment when a Leeds-born player hits a significant landmark: Erling Haaland’s next Premier League goal will be his 100th. Sunderland have defied expectations and remain unbeaten at home, where they face Bournemouth. Régis Le Bris’s side lost at Fulham last time out, while Andoni Iraola’s Cherries, level on points, have won one, drawn two and lost two of their past five matches.
3.10pm
Wales v South Africa live
Rugby union
Wales’s final autumn fixture has been mired in controversy as it falls outside World Rugby’s official Test window and the head coach, Steve Tandy, has been forced to name a weakened, callow side to take on the unrelenting world champions. Louis Rees-Zammit, Tomos Williams and Rhys Carré are among the England- and France-based players missing for Wales in Cardiff. Their captain, the Lions luminary Jac Morgan, is a long-term injury absentee. South Africa will also be missing key personnel on a weekend when club rugby returns in northern and southern hemispheres. Lee Calvert helms our live coverage, with Michael Aylwin reporting from Cardiff.
5.30pm
England Women v China Women live
Women’s football
The Lionesses are back at Wembley for a friendly against China, whom they thrashed 6-1 when they last met in August 2023. Last time out, Serena Wiegman’s European champions impressed in October’s 3-0 defeat of the Matildas and Saturday’s international sees the return of Lauren Hemp, the forward back in the England squad for the first time since Euro 2025 after recovering from injury. Keira Walsh is likely to lead the side out at Wembley as captain in place of the injured Leah Williamson. Sarah Rendell has minute-by-minute coverage, with Suzanne Wrack and Sophie Downey reporting from Wembley.
5.30pm
Everton v Newcastle live
Premier League
Beat Everton and Newcastle would secure consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since a run of five from March to April last season, such has been the dip in consistency for Eddie Howe’s side. But arriving fresh from a defeat of Manchester City will bolster a team with a lamentable away record – nine games without a win in the league. Everton too prospered against Manchester opposition, winning 1-0 at Old Trafford on Monday, and will be a tough nut to crack at home as they seek three league wins in a row. Rob Smyth is our liveblog host, with Andy Hunter reporting from Hill Dickinson Stadium.
8pm
Tottenham v Fulham live
Premier League
The pressure is ramping up on Thomas Frank after only three wins in 12 fixtures. Spurs are without a Premier League home win since the opening day and have claimed victory in only four of their nine matches at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in all competitions this season. A humbling 4-1 loss at neighbouring Arsenal last Sunday was, however, followed by a spirited 5-3 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Fulham are not the happiest of travellers, having claimed a lone point from away fixtures this season. Scott Murray covers the London derby minute by minute while John Brewin reports.

8am
Matchday live
Football
John Brewin picks up the baton of our kickstart to the day’s football programme. He will be looking ahead to Sunday’s five Premier League fixtures – with plenty of fizz surrounding Liverpool’s trip to West Ham and the top-two meeting, Chelsea v Arsenal. There will be wash-up, too, from Saturday’s fixtures, plus team news and all the latest from around the grounds.
12pm
Crystal Palace v Manchester United live
Premier League
Michael Butler steers the first of our three football liveblogs on Sunday. Ruben Amorim’s team lost to a 10-man Everton on Monday and arrive at Selhurst Park to face a Crystal Palace side who are riding high in fifth. Ominously for United, Palace have won three of their past four league meetings and are one of five clubs still unbeaten at home in the league this season. Ed Aarons is our match reporter.
2.05pm
West Ham v Liverpool live
Premier League
Nine defeats in 12 matches – and six in seven in the league – makes Sunday’s trip to West Ham hugely significant as Arne Slot’s floundering champions try to arrest their slide. They lost 3-0 against Manchester City and Nottingham Forest in their previous two Premier League matches and then crashed to a 4-1 defeat against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday. The Hammers, on the other hand, are on the rise, having won seven points from their three league games in November, almost twice as many as the four across August, September and October combined. What’s more, they have won their last two home games – 3-1 against Newcastle and 3-2 versus Burnley. John Brewin helms our live blog with Jonathan Wilson reporting.
4pm
Qatar Grand Prix
Formula One
Lando Norris has been told by Oscar Piastri that he will not help his McLaren teammate fend off Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to win the world championship. The Australian, who like the Briton was disqualified in Las Vegas, remains in title contention, but he is struggling for form and has not finished ahead of Norris since the Dutch Grand Prix on the final day of August. So it’s shaping up to be a day of drama at the penultimate race of the season – and perhaps a new world champion by the end. Luke McLaughlin hosts our F1 blog and Giles Richards reports.
4.30pm
Chelsea v Arsenal live
Premier League
Second and first in the table collide in the game of the weekend and, while there has been plenty of attention on Arsenal, Chelsea have been rather more discreet in their climb to six points off the top. Now Premier League rivals are taking the Blues seriously after a run of nine wins in their past 11 games in all competitions. Enzo Maresca’s young side underscored their newly elevated status with a tremendous 3-0 defeat of Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek. This London derby clearly is Arsenal’s toughest test to date. Cole Palmer’s return will be a bonus for a free-scoring team whose recent record – 41 goals in 19 games this term – is bettered only by Arsenal across all competitions among Premier League clubs. Rob Smyth helms our MBM coverage with David Hytner and Jacob Steinberg reporting from Stamford Bridge.
6pm
NFL week 13 liveblog
American football
Graham Searles’s live blog will bring you every touchdown and more from week 13, featuring crunch encounters between 49ers and Browns, and Texans and Colts. The 49ers, despite injuries to many of their key players, hold one of the NFC wild card spots and, after a 20-9 win over the Panthers on Monday, are gunning hard to remain in the playoff picture. In the AFC, Indianapolis – who boast the NFL’s highest-scoring offense – remain in contention despite a 23-20 overtime loss to the Chiefs after Harrison Butker slotted a 27-yard, game-winning field goal with just under two minutes remaining in the extra period.
