'Your favourite team' - Liverpool fans send cheeky transfer request to Kevin De Bruyne

Liverpool fans have wasted no time in sending multiple cheeky transfer messages to Kevin De Bruyne following a tweet by Michael Owen.

The Belgian midfielder has established himself as one of the world's top footballing talents since joining Manchester City from German club, Wolfsburg, in the summer of 2015 for a fee of £55m. That came just 12 months after Wolfsburg paid around £17m for him from Chelsea.

During his time with the Etihad club, De Bruyne has won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and five League Cups.

The playmaker enjoyed another fine season for Pep Guardiola's side, playing a key role in City's Premier League and Carabao Cup successes during the 2020/21 campaign.

Some impressive displays saw the former Genk and Chelsea man named the PFA Player of the Year for the second successive season.

In so doing, the Belgian became just the third player to win back-to-back awards, following in the footsteps of Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo.

De Bruyne, who is currently on international duty with Belgium at Euro 2020, celebrated his birthday yesterday and received a special message from Owen.

The former Reds forward posted a tweet which included a screenshot of an old interview in which De Bruyne says he is a Liverpool fan and wants to play for the club.

De Bruyne responded to Owen’s tweet, saying: “Thank you very much”, and Reds fans wasted no time in sending their own message to the 30-year-old.

Roberto Martinez revealed yesterday that there is 'good news' for De Bruyne after he was forced off during his side’s 1-0 win over Portugal in their last-16 Euro 2020 clash on Sunday.

The former Everton boss said: “Our main concern at the moment is time, as the match against Italy is coming up quickly.

“Kevin and Eden probably won't be 100% fit, but we will use every day in order to get them as fit as possible. In the event that we go through, they will be ready for the semi-final anyway."

De Bruyne’s current contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2025, so a potential move away from the Etihad seems unlikely.
