Your DoorDash order could soon cost more — depending on where you order

  • DoorDash has changed its service fee structure, which will now vary based on factors such as delivery distance and order size.
  • The company claims that over 70% of recent orders would have incurred the same or lower fees under the new model, with a median saving of $0.78 per order.
  • The updated fee system is being rolled out across most of the U.S. starting Thursday, but major markets like California, New York City, and Chicago are initially exempt.
  • These changes are intended to better reflect the effort required for each delivery and will not affect how DoorDash drivers are paid.
  • DoorDash is introducing in-app features, including a 'Farther Away' label and a detailed breakdown of charges, to provide customers with greater fee transparency.
