Your chance to vote for another reason why Leeds is better than Huddersfield

Let's face it, Leeds is much better than Huddersfield.

Whether you're talking about football teams, the size of the city centre or the ability to stage jaw-dropping events, there's only one winner.

But now there's another chance to prove why Leeds is better than Huddersfield - and your votes are needed.

It's all to do with train stations, as a nationwide competition launches today to find the best in the country.

The Rail Delivery Group kickstarted the World Cup of Stations this morning, with railway stations across the United Kingdom all in with a chance of being crowned the winner of the inaugural competition.

Why Leeds should win

Huddersfield will no doubt bleat on about the historic Grade I listing of its station, which saw the building pick up an English Heritage award a few years back.

There's Felix the Cat too, the famous four-legged moggy who has shot to fame for patrolling the platforms. She's even released two autobiographies. No mean feat.

But all that pales into insignificance compared to Leeds train station, which is the busiest in the north of England, shuttling 30 million passengers through the barriers every single year.

It's so popular that only three stations outside London see more footfall.

Then you've got the superb range of food outlets; McDonald's, Subway and Pret A Manger. If that's not enough, we've got a Sainsbury's and a Marks & Spencers Simply Food store too.

For years, people have quipped at how ugly our train station looked with its dark interior and low ceiling. To be fair, they had a point - but not anymore.

The stunning £20 million south entrance was just the start of a massive transformation of the station and now the main entrance looks incredible aswell.

The gold-plated panels, new transparent roof and open-plan entrance all mean it is now not only a busy station, but a beautiful one too.

York will lay try and lay claim to the title with its iron-clad domed roof, while Sheffield's curved water feature at the front of the station is a nice touch, but neither come anywhere near Leeds' position as the undisputed King of Yorkshire train stations.

How to vote

Leeds is up against Huddersfield, York and Sheffield in the Yorkshire and Humberside group stage, with the winner advancing to take on train stations from across the country.

To vote for Leeds, head to the @RailDeliveryGrp Twitter account or search for #WorldCupOfStations from 10am on Thursday, October 10.
