Your chance to own a cheeky old Imp

AN IMMACULATE slice of Scottish motoring history is up for auction next Wednesday when H&H Classics sells this 1968 Hillman Imp Californian.

The rare fastback version of the Imp built at Linwood, next to Glasgow Airport, has been fully restored to original condition inside and out.

It’s expected to fetch at least £7000 at the sale in Buxton, Derbyshire, and is one of only 6100 Californians made between 1967 and 1970.

Go retro with Caledonian Classics

Scottish firm restore classic cars from around the world

The car would have cost £650 when new and features a swept back rear window to make it a more sporting choice than the standard Imp.

It also has a lowered roofline and revised suspension to tame the Imp’s reputation for tricky handling on wet corners.

This time-warp example comes with the original vinyl seat covers, wheels and badges, so its new owner can experience the pleasure of this car as it would have been when new.
