Youngsters step up as Ziyech gives taste of what's to come - Things noticed in Chelsea training

It’s not too much longer until the Premier League returns.

Chelsea are stepping up their preparations ahead of their first game of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Monday, 14 September.

There could be a few new faces for Frank Lampard for that game, as the Blues close in on three new signings ahead of that match.

But while there is work going on off the field, the Chelsea boss has also been putting his players through hard work on the training field too.

Chelsea Premier League fixtures

Here are three things we noticed from training on Monday.

Ampadu and Gallagher join

Frank Lampard has been praised for his use of academy graduates since being appointed as Chelsea boss.

And it seems that despite being active in the transfer window, it will be no different in the upcoming season.

Included in the training session on Monday are two players who spent last season on loan.

Ethan Ampadu was at RB Leipzig while Connor Gallagher impressed at Charlton and Swansea.

Both will be looking to make an impression in training.

Ziyech doing what he does best

Lampard has looked to improve the attacking areas of his squad with his additions so far.

Both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner were early acquisitions and have had time to settle in.

The former has been bought to provide chances for Werner and the other strikers at the club, and is known for his lethal crosses into the box.

Pictures during training show the Moroccan international practicing them crosses ahead of the new season.

Alonso to relish competition

It seems that Marcos Alonso will have more competition for the left-back spot in the upcoming season with the imminent arrival of Ben Chilwell.

The Leicester full-back is on the verge of arriving at Stamford Bridge after a breakthrough in negotiations with Leicester City.

It means that Alonso will have to impress in training should he wish to keep his place.

And pictures on Monday show the left-back using his leadership skills as well as getting stuck in.
