Youngsters moved on by police after climbing onto railway bridge over M66

A group of youngster had to be moved on by police after they were caught sitting on a railway bridge above a busy motorway.

A patrol spotted the youths dangling their legs over the M66 close to Junction 2 for Bury yesterday afternoon.

They appeared to have climbed up onto a railway bridge which supports a section of track used by the East Lancs Railway to travel between Bury and Rochdale.

An officer from the North West Motorway Police said the youngster were clearly causing "danger" to themselves and drivers.

In a post on Facebook, the officer said: "Report received of a group of youths on a railway bridge over the M66.

"GMP's Traffic Unit and local patrols have travelled to the area to move them.

"It's clear to see from the photo of the danger this is causing not only to themselves but road users also.

"The youths will be spoken to, taken home and parents will strongly advised."

Anyone with information to report to police should contact 101.
