Youngsters from Haldane youth group unveil mural in Balloch

Youngsters and staff from Haldane Youth Services joined staff from Loch Lomond and the Trossachs national park authority to officially unveil a unique piece of artwork on Friday.

The mural ‘Little Hands Ben Lomond’ is on display at Balloch Bus Station and commemorates last year’s European Championships.

The work was created by members of Haldane Youth Services, tasked with creating a piece of art to celebrate the open water competition that took place in Loch Lomond as part of the multi-sport event.

The mural can be found at Balloch Bus Station (Lennox Herald)

The group decided they wanted to reflect what the athletes would see when they swam north up Loch Lomond and chose Ben Lomond as the focal point for the piece.

The mural was created using the handprints of young people from the organisation, members of the community as well as visitors who attended the competition during last summer.

During the event, Haldane Youth Services was also presented with a cheque for over £5000 after the national park authority chose the local group as their charity of the year.

Staff organised a series of events to raise cash including car washes, raffles and sponsored challenges to collect the cash.
