Youngsters break into play areas despite coronavirus closures

Youngsters are breaking into play areas across Weston-super-Mare after they have been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Weston Town Council closed off the play areas during the outbreak as part of Government guidelines to keep people safe.

But it seems people across the town are ignoring the closures and breaking into the areas to gather.

The town council owns and manages a number of parks and play areas across the seaside town.

These include Ashcombe Park, Hutton Moor Skate Park, Broadway play area, Jubilee Park, Broadway Skate Park, the park at Locking Castle and the play area at Byron Recreation Ground.

Signs have been put up at the play areas advising people they are closed to the public until further notice and now a Weston Town Council spokesman urged people to adhere to the rules.

'A high number' of sites broken in to

The spokesman said: “We are increasingly aware that we are getting more members of the public contacting us about groups of youngsters in our play areas.

“The play areas still remain closed and should have their gates banded shut, with a sign stating they are closed.

“We are aware that a high number of our sites have been broken into, either by damaging the banding or climbing over.

The Operational Grounds Team are aware of this and they are locking play areas with chains and replenishing signage.
