Youngsters and business owners squeal with delight as Renfrewshire moves to Level 0 restrictions

One of Renfrewshire’s most hard-up businesses reopened to squeals of delight today as covid restrictions ease across the county.

Pandamonium Play Centre, in Erskine, has been shut for 16 months - one of the longest closures of any business in the region.

But this morning, to the absolute joy of youngsters and weary parents alike, the much-loved soft play reopened its doors.

Soft play and activity centres are for many a highlight of Renfrewshire’s move into Level 0 covid restrictions.

Coming into force today, the new rules mean a return to “near normal” for many businesses and local families.

Jennifer McNaughton, manager of Pandamonium, said she was “ecstatic” to welcome loyal customers back.

“It has been so, so lovely, “ she said.

“The kids have been coming to reception and jumping up and down with excitement and when they get in they are just shaking with joy, they don’t know what to do first.

“It’s been amazing to see all those red faces and the kids having the time of their lives.

“And the parents, they have been telling us they are delighted to get a five-minute breather and maybe a catch up with a friend. So everyone has been buzzing. There has been a lovely atmosphere.”

The reopening of Pandamonium signals an easing of restrictions across Renfrewshire.

From today, up to eight people from four households can meet in private homes, with up to ten people from four households able to meet indoors in places like pubs and restaurants.

These venues have seen their 10pm curfew extended to midnight and the requirement to book a table in two-hour slots has been removed.

The move to Level 0 means Saints fans will also enjoy greater access to the SMiSA Stadium, with up to 2,000 fans now permitted to be seated in outdoor arenas.

But the proposed gradual return to workplaces has been postponed, with the First Minister calling on employers to allow their staff to work from home until at least August 9 where possible.

And the blanket requirement for close contacts to self-isolate could potentially be lifted from that date for all of those who have had two doses of the vaccine.

A final decision on quarantine requirements for adults and children attending school is expected within the next week
