Man 'seconds from death' after crossing rail tracks and almost being hit by 90mph train at Pyle

A man was almost hit by a 90mph train after dangerously crossing railway tracks late at night.

CCTV footage shows the man standing with three young people on a platform at Pyle railway station near Bridgend.

The man is then seen crossing the tracks to the other side, just seconds before a train passes at up to 90mph.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the man, wearing a black hoodie, was "seconds from tragedy" when crossing the tracks at 11.17pm on October 8.

The CCTV shows him jumping onto the opposite platform and celebrating the stunt.

The force is now investigating the incident with officers appealing for witnesses to get in touch to help identify the individuals.

Inspector Mike Edwards said: "The railway is a highly dangerous environment and anyone seeking to trespass on the line is not only committing an offence but are risking their lives.

"This footage is deeply concerning. Quite frankly I am surprised our officers were not called to a fatality that evening – this young man was seconds from tragedy.

“Trespassing is no joke and we urge people to respect the railway and its dangers."

BTP are hosting rail safety surgeries at Pyle station on Thursday and Friday.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference number 1900086868.
