Youngster rewarded, Nathan Ake shows new skill and things spotted in Man City training

Manchester City began preparations for facing Arsenal in the Premier League next week after getting their Premier League campaign up and running against Norwich.

City ran out comfortable 5-0 winners over Norwich on Saturday, with Jack Grealish, Aymeric Laporte, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez adding to a Tim Krul own goal.

Now, attentions turn to the next game, when Arsenal visit the Etihad on Saturday, in what will be the final game before the season's first international break.

In training footage put out by the club, City players can be seen in good spirits after the Norwich win, with the substitutes and fringe players making up the bulk of the squad out on the grass.

We've looked through the footage and picked out five talking points:

Amazed Mahrez

As he walked out onto the training pitch, Riyad Mahrez greeted the camera operator by declaring his bewilderment at a change in the weather in East Manchester.

"22nd August, it's a miracle, the suns out. Unbelievable," he said, before turning to his captain. "Dinho, what can you say about the sun? 22nd August, look, a little bit of sun."

After being amazed by some sun peeking through the clouds, Mahrez then amazed teammate Raheem Sterling with a smart nutmeg. Sterling was audibly impressed, and Mahrez made sure to ask whether the skill had been caught on camera.

McAtee in the mood

Pep Guardiola named James McAtee as one of the youngsters who will spend most of his time with the first team squad in training while dropping down to the under-23s for game time. While some of his academy colleagues were involved against Norwich, McAtee was scoring a hat-trick in the Premier League 2 on Friday to rescue three points from the jaws of defeat.

As a reward, McAtee was back in senior training and looked in high spirits as he produced some good skill to beat Raheem Sterling in a shooting drill before forcing a save from Scott Carson. The veteran keeper drew laughs when responding: "I used to be good lads, don't be surprised."

Later in a training game, McAtee made some space before sending a fine strike into the top corner, and he'll be looking to continue his good form for the under-21s in their Papa John's Trophy fixture at League Two side Scunthorpe this week.

Pep watches on as fringe players look to impress

In that training game, there were two teams of seven made up of the substitutes against Norwich plus some youngsters and fringe players. One team, made up of Carson, Patrick Roberts, Raheem Sterling, Romeo Lavia, Nathan Ake, Aleks Zinchenko and McAtee faced an opposition consisting of Zack Steffen, Philippe Sandler, Benjamin Mendy, Fernandinho, Riyad Mahrez, Tommy Doyle, and Cole Palmer.

It was the team with Sterling who looked to come out on top, from the clips published at least, with the no.7 finishing smartly to go with McAtee's top corner strike. Tommy Doyle tapped in for the other side after a good Sandler backheel.

Nathan Ake's new skill

We saw Ake debut his impressive piano talents in the 'Together' film recently, and now he's put himself forward as a set piece taker when he gets back on the pitch.

As the players lined up some free kicks, blocked by a makeshift wall, Ake stepped up left-footed to bend a strike into the top corner from the edge of the area. Tommy Doyle found the bottom corner with a curled finish of his own, but it was Ake's surprise strike that got the bigger reaction.

No Stones or De Bruyne

John Stones and Kevin De Bruyne missed the Norwich win for fitness issues, and neither were seen on the training video put out on Sunday. That's not to say they didn't train in some capacity, given that not all starters versus Norwich were spotted during their lighter session, but they certainly weren't involved in the practice game involving those who didn't play a big role against Norwich.

Players seen in City training: Mahrez, Fernandinho, Sterling, Mendy, Roberts, Ake, Palmer, Doyle, McAtee, Zinchenko, Grealish, Bernardo, Carson, Sandler, Dias, Lavia, Roberts, Steffen.
