Youngster held for selling Changa

A youngster, who was preparing DMT or Changa, a psychotropic substance, at his residence at Kondapur, was arrested by Hyderabad city police on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing apprehended the accused, K. Sreeram (25), a freelancer, and seized eight grams of Changa, processing equipment and two mobile phones from his possession. His customer, S. Deepak Kumar Jadhav (29), a Customer Service Executive at Regalix, and a resident of Bolaram, was also taken into custody.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) D S Chauhan said that Sreeram, who was addicted to drugs since his college days, learned ‘the art’ of processing the drugs through the Internet. “Then he procured all the requirements through Amazon, India Mart and laboratory shops and started processing the drug,” he said. Subsequently, he extracted the DMT (Di-methyl Tryptomine) or Changa and sold it to the customers for ₹ 8,000 per gram. He was apprehended by a team led by DCP Gummi Chakravarthy on Road No.36, Jubilee Hills, while he was trying to sell the drug. Sreeram and Deepak along with the seized material were handed over to Jubilee Hills police for further investigation.
