Youngster Bobby Kamwa signs new Leeds United contract

Young midfielder Bobby Kamwa has put pen to paper on a new contract at Elland Road, Leeds United have officially announced.

The 20-year-old, who has progressed through the youth ranks at Thorp Arch, has signed a new two-year deal, meaning he will stay at Elland Road until the summer of 2022.

Despite his tender age, Kamwa has already been a regular for the club's Under-23s, featuring regularly for Carlos Corberan's side.

The Cameroonian, who does not turn 21 until next March, missed a large portion of the Professional Development League 2 campaign due to injury troubles, but he was in strong form prior to the youth season being suspended amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Kamwa had netted three goals in five outings from midfield in the PDL2 and Premier League Cup.

The youngster signed his first professional deal with Leeds back in March 2018, which has now expired, forcing Leeds' hand to award him with a fresh two-year contract.

Since first joining Leeds on a scholarship, Kamwa has been making some impressive strides, with him quickly becoming one of the most highly-rated players emerging from the club's academy.

Kamwa will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Jamie Shackleton, Robbie Gotts and Leif Davis by one day forcing his way into Marcelo Bielsa's first-team plans.
