Youngest ever Conservative councillor joins Staffordshire PR agency

The UK's youngster ever Conservative borough councillor has swapped politics for PR after joining a Staffordshire agency.

Martin Deakin, formerly of Cheshire East Council, is the latest recruit at Stafford-based Stone Junction after clocking up 'years of experience working with journalists and the media.'

The 22-year-old was first elected to Cheshire East Council in 2015 aged just 18, combining his political commitments with studies in politics and international relations at the University of Reading and Keele University.

Now he has joined Stone Junction as an account executive.

He said: "Working in local government, I really enjoyed building relationships with media outlets and getting to know different journalists.

“I really wanted a career where I could build on this and so PR really spoke to me.

"Stone Junction is a company that prides itself on its relationships with clients and journalists, so I am confident that joining was the right decision.”

Richard Stone, managing director at Stone Junction, said: "Stone Junction has grown significantly over the last few years.

"We’ve recruited from backgrounds including STEM, languages, marketing and PR to help combat the traditional disadvantages of single discipline technical PR agencies.

"Martin brings with him useful additional experience in media and public relations that will be of particular benefit to our clients, including the global engineering company Renishaw.”
