Gardai are investigating after two young women were brutally attacked by a gang of teens who knocked them to the ground and started kicking them in a Cork park.
The incident happened in Glen River Park where a group of up to 50 youths had gathered on Saturday evening and stayed into the night.
Two young women, both aged 22, had been in the park in a separate area when some of the gang came up to them asking for cigarettes.
The women obliged but later one of the teens flicked a burning butt into one of the girl's hair.
One of the women then asked who threw it before she was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head.
Her friend then tried to help but was also knocked to the ground and kicked in the chin.
Gardai were called but failed to make it to the scene and later came to their homes to check-in.
The women didn't suffer any serious injuries but were left with cuts and bruises.
They were also left with visible marks to their faces with one suffering swelling to her chin and the other on her forehead.
Gardai are now appealing for any potential witnesses to come forward.
A spokesman said: "Gardaí at Watercourse Road are investigating the alleged assault of two females (20s) during an incident at Glen River Park, Ballyvolane.
"It’s understood that the two women were assaulted following an altercation with a group of youths while sitting in the park shortly before 11pm on Saturday 24 April 2021.
"No arrests have been made to date enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Watercourse Road on (021) 455 8260 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."
