Young women attacked by thug wearing Rangers flag at Coatbridge Sunnyside train station

A young woman has been left with severe leg injuries after being attacked at a train station.

The victim was assaulted by another young woman at Coatbridge Sunnyside railway station around 7.30pm on Saturday.

Her friend, who attempted to come to her aid, was also assaulted by the same woman who was wearing a Rangers flag around her neck.

British Transport Police are now hunting the woman responsible and are asking anyone who witnessed the assault to come forward.

The suspect is described as a white female, aged between 17 and 20-years-old, with a heavy build and dark hair. She is described as wearing a Rangers flag around her neck and black trousers. She was also in the company of another female.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Several people are believed to have been at the station at the time of the assault and detectives are urging them to come forward with any information.

"Witnesses or anyone with information can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 2100034030.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Services through the station were disrupted following the incident.
