One of the victims of the horrific stabbing in Nottingham came from a well-known Irish medical family.
Grace O’Malley-Kumar, 19, was fatally stabbed with her friend Barnaby Webber in the British city on Tuesday. Grace, following her family's footsteps, was studying medicine at the University of Nottingham.
Grace's family had strong links to Ireland as her Irish-born mother Sinead O’Malley was educated at Alexandra College in Dublin. Sinead is also believed to have studied at the RCSI in Dublin and now works as a consultant anaesthetist in London.
Additionally, her grandfather, Professor Kevin O'Malley, is a former registrar and chief executive of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He moved to Bahrain in the Middle East to establish the RCSI's college as its founding president and he still holds an emeritus position.

In a statement, Grace's family said they "cannot explain" their "complete and utter devastation" at her death and said she was "so happy in life fulfilling her ambition of studying to become a doctor", the Irish Times reports.
Grace's father, Dr Sanjoy Kumar, famously saved the lives of three teenagers who were stabbed during a gang attack near his surgery in 2009. Grace's family described the talented teenager as "resilient and wise beyond her years".
