Young woman's body found in Hamilton woods identified as missing teenager Amber Gibson

A young woman's body found in a wooded area in Hamilton has been identified as missing teenager Amber Gibson.

We told how police and forensics teams swooped on an area near Cadzow Glen after the discovery was made at around 10.15am on Sunday morning.

The body has now formally been identified as the 16-year-old, also known as Amber Niven.

Amber had been reported missing from the Hamilton area on Friday, November 26.

The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries remain ongoing.

Pictures on Sunday showed officers at the scene, with a large cordon in place and Cadzow Street closed and guarded.

Investigations were ongoing throughout the day with emergency services still in attendance late into the night.

Chief Inspector Briony Daye said: “At this time, our thoughts are very much with Amber’s loved ones, as they come to terms with this terrible loss.

“As we continue our enquiries, there will be an increased police presence in the area. I’d like to thank the public for their assistance so far and ask anyone with information who hasn’t already spoken with officers to please call 101, quoting incident 1281 of 28 November.”
