Young woman moved to Manchester to pursue her dream - then she was found dead

A young woman tragically found dead in Salford Quays was an 'incredibly gifted' student with hopes for a future in film. Charlotte Burlace-Colquhoun, 20, had 'dreamed of moving to Manchester' before she was discovered in the water on the morning of December 20.

Her family paid a heartfelt tribute to Charlotte, also known as 'Lottie' to her close friends, after her death, describing her as a 'kind' and 'creative' individual who 'loved people'.

An inquest into Charlotte's death was opened at Bolton Coroner's Court on January 6. A full inquest into her death is to be held later this year. Greater Manchester Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death after they were called to the scene at Central Bay.

A friend of the family, Benedict McManus, told the Manchester Evening News that Charlotte was 'incredibly gifted' and had hopes of a future working in film or TV. Charlotte had only recently enrolled on a university course studying post-production TV and Film before she died.

He added: "Charlotte had just taken the massive move of leaving home and starting uni as a talented film editor. It was the first step in her dream of moving to Manchester and the next one in her journey. Charlotte - Lottie for those that knew her, was a bright, intelligent and talented stick of dynamite."

He has since started up a fundraising page to help raise money to cover the cost of Charlotte's funeral, to support the family and reduce their worry about how to pay for laying her to rest. Her funeral is to be held in her hometown of Stoke-on-Trent.

The day after her death, her father said in a tribute: "My wife, my daughter and I love Charlotte very much and we’re already missing her. She was beautiful, intelligent, kind, creative and loved people and cats. Charl had just started at university studying ‘Post-Production for TV and Film’ and was beginning a new future with great prospects."

Friends also paid heartfelt tributes, calling her 'gifted' and 'talented' in film-making and editing. They added she was 'one of the first people willing to help someone'.
