Young woman missing after being 'approached by a man' as cops launch search

Police have launched a desperate search for a missing 21-year-old woman after she failed to come home following a night out.

Lybi Halliday was last seen in Glasgow city centre at around 11.30pm on Friday evening before she was reported as missing the following morning.

Close friends of the Hamilton woman say that she was approached by a ‘man in a brown jacket’ in the Trongate area of the city before her disappearance.

Police are now appealing for any key information that may lead to her whereabouts.

Lybi has been described as white, around 5ft 3ins, of slim build, with long dark hair tied up in a ponytail.

She was wearing a dark green checked shirt with a white crop top tied in the middle, baggy blue ripped jeans, sunglasses and was carrying a small black handbag.

Police Scotland Sergeant Louise McLenaghan, Hamilton Police Station, said: “Lybi was last seen in the Trongate, Glasgow City Centre around 11.30 pm and was believed to have been making her way to Central Station to get her train home, however, she didn't arrive home and so her family called police.

"We would appeal to anyone who may have seen her or has any information on her whereabouts to get in touch with police via 101. Please quote reference number 1136 of 1 May, 2021, when calling.

"We'd also appeal to Lybi herself to get in touch with police or her family who are concerned for her well-being."

“Enquiries are ongoing to trace her.
