Young woman left disgusted after man urinates in bottle on train to Dublin when toilet was only steps away

A young woman has been left disgusted after a man heading to Dublin on a train urinated into a plastic bottle that he had drank milk out of only moments before.

Erica was travelling to Heuston station from Kent station in Cork on Tuesday when the horrific incident occured.

She was with a friend and they noticed that a man who was sat opposite them had been drinking from the milk bottle and then left it on the table.

He then decided to urinate in the empty bottle rather than walking to the nearest toilet which was only steps away.

Speaking on the 96FM Opinion Line with PJ Coogan, Erica said: "A man got on and sat across from us and as soon as the train started to move, there was a really bad smell so everyone had their hands up by their face trying to block it out.

"Kind of halfway down to Cork, he had an empty bottle of a strawberry milkshake or milk and he just started urinating into the bottle even though he was fully capable of walking to the toilet, which was only about five steps away."

Erica's friend alerted Irish Rail staff to the fact that a man had urinated in a bottle from his seat but according to Erica, no cleaner came to remove the bottle after the man moved from his seat at Mallow.

She continued: "I'd say he knew that everyone was talking about him by the time we got to Mallow so I don't know if he got off or if he moved around the train because everyone started moving seats. Some people were getting off.

"I just didn't expect that carry-on to come out of someone. He just had a brown top on and black pants. The black pants were a bit stained but that could happen to anyone. He had a beard."

Erica noted that the man did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol and revealed that he simply left the bottle behind him when he got off the train.

She said: "He just left the bottle behind him which is unfair on the cleaners who have to come along and if they don't have gloves on and don't know what's in the bottle.

"He got off and left the bottle behind him. There's a lot of kids going up to Dublin on the train and you just don't know who's sitting on the seat."

Irish Rail has been contacted for a statement.
