Young woman 'jumped and punched by gang of teens' in Ballyvolane, Cork

A young woman was left shaken and injured after allegedly being jumped by a group of teenagers.

The woman, aged in her early 20s, was walking home past Glen Rovers GAA pitch in Ballyvolane, Co Cork at around 9pm on Friday night, January 24 when a gang of teenagers allegedly set upon her.

One of the boys allegedly punched the woman in the head and face repeatedly, leaving her with considerable damage, Cork Beo reports.

The woman was taken to SouthDoc but was then referred to Cork University Hospital due to the severity of her jaw injury.

An anonymous message sent to Cllr John Maher late on Friday read: "A young female friend of mine, who only moved to Ireland five years ago to live and work here, was walking home tonight around 9pm and was assaulted by the Glen Rovers club in Ballyvolane.

"There were three young boys all dressed in black, about 15 /16 - one of them kept punching her into the side of her face and her jaw.

"She is distraught. A car passed but never stopped to help or see if she was OK.

"We were in SouthDoc and she has been referred to CUH for possible jaw injury/dislocation.

"What is happening to our streets, it is so upsetting."Gardai have been contacted for a statement.

This is the latest in a series of frightening incidents in Cork city in recent weeks after numerous assaults, the stabbing of student Cameron Blair and Keith Greaney being doused in petrol and set alight in Mayfield earlier this week.
