Young woman ‘fighting for life’ after horror smash near Scots castle as police close road for five hours

A young woman is ‘fighting for life’ in hospital after being involved in a horror two car crash in East Lothian.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A198 near Tantallon Castle, North Berwick, at around 5pm on Wednesday.

A black BMW 320 estate had collided with a white Mini Cooper - leaving the 23-year-old with life-threatening injuries.

She was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

A female pensioner, 71, was also taken to hospital as a precaution following the smash.

The road was closed for around five hours to allow for accident investigation work with officers now appealing for witnesses.

Sergeant Scott Kirkpatrick, of Livingston Road Policing Unit, said: “This was a crash that has left one person with life-threatening injuries.

“We are appealing to the public for assistance to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“I would encourage any motorists with possible dashcam footage that were in the area around the time of the crash to contact police.

“Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 2478 of Wednesday, 9 June, 2021.”
